The Holiday Party
12/10/2008 at 5:40:38 PM by Jason T. Stiles | 0 Comments

The Holiday Party was pretty fun actually!  I wasn't expecting it to be that great, and it probably wouldn't have been if Christy wasn't there with me.  It was really nice to have her there!

A picture of Christy and Me before we went to the party:

The Feast
The party started out with a big feast... all kinds of food: cheesy noodle stuff which I liked, but unfortunately didn't eat much of; chicken fingers; all kinds of salad stuff for you veggie freaks out there; mashed potatoes; and there was other stuff I just don't remember because I didn't eat it!  Oh, dinner rolls!  But I didn't eat those either.

Small Talk
We sat next to Mike from work to keep us company, and also the Marketing Director and her boyfriend or husband (not sure which it was).  We talked about all sorts of things: from the quirks of IT to the big execs of the company; oh and also we talked about PALMS - the Case Management System I'm building at work and how I'm a little concerned meeting the deadline.  It's a big system and for it to be done in six months which is what I unfortunately agreed to is really tough.  We also talked about DDR on the Wii... how I've been playing DDR for like 7 years or something crazy like that, but haven't it played it much on the Wii version.  It just so happened that the DDR on the Wii was there for the party for people to play.  Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party 2.  I'm sure you can guess what happened next...

DDR on Wii
So I played DDR on the Wii!  It was sort of awkward because the system was set up in a small, crowded room of people from my company (front row seats to watch people make fools of themselves, especially while drunk).  I was a little shy to play at first, but I didn't let it get to me.  After all, I had been playing DDR in front of loads of people for a long time... doing it in front of people I work with shouldn't be so bad!  Luckily, I wasn't that bad... obviously the best one there though, lol.  From what I'm told, people were pretty impressed that I could play the game so well!  One of the Associate Attorneys was like "I just don't understand, like... how do you do that game... you were awesome, your feet did crazy things...", yeah that guy had one too many beers.  I sit cooped up in my office programming all day while I'm at work... it's no wonder that people couldn't believe that I could actually DO THINGS other than programming!  And by DO THINGS, I mean they probably didn't expect one of those THINGS was being able to DANCE!  I did shake my bon-bon a little too much perhaps, but it's hard not to once you get groovin' to the music.  Especially on DDR, if you don't shake your bon-bon then you are probably not doing very well!  I sorta-maybe threw in some spins and fancy footwork too, but it was only because I wanted to SHOW OFF!  That's right, I like to dance and I like to show-off... I LIKE TO SHAKE MY BON-BON!

The first few times I played it was with the Marketing Director, but I played a couple times with one of the executive committee members of the company.  No offense to him but he looked like a monkey that couldn't keep his balance.  It was pretty funny and he was a good sport about it.  Definitely made for a memorable moment at the party for everyone!

Oh yeah, Christy said a couple girls from my company were checking me out too!  That's nice to hear for a guy that is losing his hair!  ARGH!  Why the hell do I have to suffer through male-pattern baldness!  Why did I have to receive that gene!  Thanks Mom or Dad! Whoever passed that one on to me!  I'm thinking it was my Dad... he has a receding hairline as well, but mine appears to be worse unfortunately.  I used to have great hair!! I would rather have lost a toe... Ok, enough about my hair and my toes, let's continue the story...

The Cue Ball from Hell
The rest of the night saw me playing billiards against my boss.  I lost.  Three times.  I won once though.  Each time I had a partner and one was the Marketing Director's boyfriend or husband (or whatever).  I forgot to mention he's an IT guy, but that's not as important as him not being very good at billiards either (at least on that night).  I definitely need to play more pool...  At least I didn't hit the cue ball off the table like my boss did.  One time he hit it off the table and it came right at me.  Thanks to gravity no pain befell me.

Capitol Grill
While I was playing pool, my company was holding a raffle for prizes.  They gave out all sorts of gift cards and certificates and a Nintendo Wii with that DDR game.  I didn't win the Wii, but I did win $100 gift certificate to Capitol Grill in the Somerset Mall!  I'm told it's a very expensive restaurant and fairly fancy as well.  I don't know when or who I will be taking there, but I do have a girlfriend now and since the restaurant is expensive and fancy, I'm probably going to take her and probably sometime this month!  It's Christmas and New Year's!  One of those will make for a good dinner and fond memories; it was meant to be!

So after that Christy and I went home 'cuz she was looking extremely bored watching me play pool, lol.  A few times I caught her staring across the pool table at what I thought was another guy, but in fact she was daydreaming or something!  She didn't just do it once either, it was like three times!  Three times is three too many so I spared her from having to daydream again (or look at another guy!) and we left.

Birthday Party
Saturday came and Christy and I had plans to attend a birthday party on her kids' father's side.  Their Dad wasn't there because he lives in Texas and is a douchebag, but loads of other relatives were there! It was a little awkward, but the people I met were very welcoming to me.  They were happy that Christy and I found each other, and I'm told they liked me - thought I was a "real nice guy".  That's because I am a real nice guy.  I'm a great guy!  I'm glad they thought so too.  There was food and drink, and dancing there too at the party.  I danced around with Christy and her kids and some other people I didn't know, and also danced to one of my favoritist songs: Let It Rock by Kevin Rudolph.  Download that song or go buy the single, it's good!

Sunday with the Kids
The little rugrats woke me up early again!  Not as bad as the last time they woke me up at 6:30am though.  This time the 2 yr old boy, Nathan, woke me up saying "Up!", "Up!", "Up!" but once I let him up on the bed, he rested there with us for about an hour and half.  That gave me some extra sleeping time at least.  The rest of the day saw us playin' with the kids, watching TV shows or movies, and pretty much just relaxing.  We did go to the store to pick up some meds for me (cuz I was STILL sick) and some groceries for making dinner and stuff.  I also found time to take a nap and work on my project for work!  A well-rounded Sunday I'd say.

This weekend Christy will be up again and we might be going to dinner at my cousin's house not far from where I live.  So tune in next week, again, and be sure to watch the ELF YOURSELF video below - 'cuz it's funny!

Turkey Weekend
12/02/2008 at 4:22:34 PM by Jason T. Stiles | 0 Comments

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving weekend! I know I did!  Here's how it all went down:

Thanksgiving Eve
I decided I didn't want Ringo to stay by himself for 4 days and took him with me on the trip home.  He did surprisingly well for nearly the whole ride!  There was one incident where he jumped up on my dashboard and almost made me crap myself, but the rest of the time he was fairly mellow and just laid down in the passenger seat.  I made sure that I gave him some attention every now and then to make him feel more comfortable.

I met up with Christy at the mall in Battle Creek.  She offered to let Ringo stay at her place for the weekend.  We ate at Applebees: I had the three cheese chicken penne pasta, and Christy had a chicken wrap with rice.  Gross!  The chicken wrap had some weird sauce on it because Christy kissed me and I almost threw up!  Thankfully our lips unlocked before anything far worse happened!  Mental note: don't kiss Christy after she eats gross stuff!!

Thanksgiving Day
We ate around 2:30 in the afternoon.  As is the family tradition we had lots of food at the table: scalloped potatoes, stuffing, juicy ham, corn, deviled eggs (my fav!!), and of course - Turkey!  There was some other stuff too that I can't remember because it was stuff I wouldn't dare eat!  After eating we did the typical thing...talk, make jokes, and remember the good times.  There's nothing quite like being around family that can make you feel right at home.

At night, I met up with Christy, Eddie and Jeanie to see Transporter 3 at the Celebration Cinema in Kalamazoo.  The movie was good!  If you haven't seen the first two Transporter movies, you should see them and then go watch Transporter 3.  Lots of action.  I give it a healthy 9/10.

Black Friday
So I stayed over at Christy's Thanksgiving Day night only to wake up at the buttcrack of dawn... 2am, to drive an hour to Holland and go shopping with my Mom, Sister and Jessica.  The first place we went to was Best Buy where they had some good deals going on.  I got a second 19" Samsung monitor for $130 - excellent deal, originally $200.  They had other LCD monitors for $100 but they weren't Samsungs so I didn't want them.  The worst thing about Black Friday is all the people, but it's also kind of exciting.  The store was literally packed... people everywhere, you had to push and shove to get anywhere!  We stayed in one line for, I swear, almost 1.5 hours... it was terrible.  The line only had one person ringing people up and he was really slow... when we got up there we rushed the guy lol.  We were like... "no" to this, "no" to that and shoved stuff under his scanner gun to get things scanned quickly 'cuz the dood was seriously slow.  We pretty much rung up the transaction ourselves.

We finally got out of Best Buy and did some shopping at some other stores... Younkers, JC Penney's, Michael's, Sams Club, and Hobby Lobby to name a few.  It wasn't a typical Black Friday though because we got our shopping done before noon!  That was a pleasant
surprise.  I spent a lot of monies too...

Don Pablo's
That same night Christy and I met up with Eddie, Jeanie, Max (a long-time friend of Eddie's), and Eddie's Mom (Sue) and Grandmom.  I had only been to Don Pablo's one other time and the only thing I had ate were the chips because I didn't like anything else on the menu.  But this time I ordered something good... a few plain chicken quesadilla's.  Christy got to meet everyone which was important to me, and we all had a great time.  We even got the place to do something special for Eddie since his birthday was the following Monday.  They brought out a nice treat with a candle and a big ol' sombrero to embarrass himself with.  The bad thing is... Eddie doesn't really get embarrassed, or at least he hardly shows it!

Monaco Bay
Later that night Eddie and Jeanie, Max, and Christy and I went out to Monaco Bay in Kalamazoo before heading to the Wild Bull to get our groove on.  Monaco Bay is a pretty unique place featuring dueling pianos, food and drink, and a good time.  Again we embarrassed Eddie by requesting a birthday song from one of the pianists.  It backfired though because instead of just him going up on stage... the pianist made Max and myself get up on stage too.  We had to show off our moves to the YMCA song... we have some pictures, but we were dancing too crazy-like so they are all blurred, here's one below:

The Wild Bull
Argh, so unfortunately the Wild Bull was playing Country Music again... Eddie and Jeanie didn't want to dance to that which I completely understand, so we pretty much called it a night.  Christy and I stayed at the bull for a while though with Brooke so she could ogle over the bartender she fantasizes about.  lol.  I don't think I could give an accurate depiction of what is going on between Brooke and that bartender... Brooke is hot, why that bartender doesn't scoop her up is beyond me.

Saturday Morning - bright and early!
Unfortunately, Saturday morning came all too soon with Christy's son, 2 year-old Nathan, shouting "up" next to the bed at 6am.  I shook my head at him, but that didn't stop him from wanting up.  So I grabbed him and pulled him on the bed.  The rest is history since Alaina got up and her and Nathan climbed all over me for the next hour or so... there was no way I would get back to sleep.  Everytime I tried I got a suckerpunch to the groin or a bop to the head.  Ahh kids... gotta love 'em right?  I think I may have to invest in some light body armor.  Maybe a child-repellent?  Those probably don't exist.  Don't get me wrong, I love kids!  But not at 6am in the morning!

Bilbo's Pizza
We met up with Eddie and Jeanie for lunch at Bilbo's pizza on Westnedge.  It's a nice restaurant, the pizza was really good, I'll have to remember to go there again for sure.  We gave Eddie his presents in a big bag of ruffled papers that Christy just had to have in there.  I would've been fine just handing him some Meijer bags containing his presents, but Christy had to go all out of course.  We got him a super-kewl bathrobe (black and gray, I should've took a picture), a bottle of fine scotch - I already forget the name of it, and a thing to hold the scotch in - there is a name for that too, but I'm sick today and can't remember squat.

Fredrick Meijer Gardens
Yeah so one of the places we wanted to take the girls on Turkey weekend was Fredrick Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids.  It's a pretty kewl place, I HEAR! That's right, I only hear because we got there right when they closed!    Yeah that sucked, but we at least got to take a couple pictures in a sleigh.  I'll put those pictures up whenever Christy sends 'em to me.

San Chez
That night we ate at a unique restaraunt in downtown Grand Rapids.  I only found ONE thing I would try on the menu, but ended up liking two things: I had... some weird food that sounds like poncho de gallo?  It was meat on a stick basically.  I sampled some of the dishes that the others had... some fish (literally almost threw up), some salad stuff (the lettuce actually wasn't that bad), some potato things (they were extraordinarily good, ate a lot of those), and I tried some other stuff too that I didn't care for.  Here's a few pictures from the restaurant:

This food has squid in it!!

That's Jeanie eating some of that disgusting squid!!!

That's Eddie drinking Squid ink, I forget what it was actually called.

That's Eddie and Jeanie lookin' cute together.

Christy enjoying the night, beautiful as ever.

Return to the Wild Bull
Argh, so... we traveled back to Kalamazoo to the Wild Bull hoping this time they'd have some good music playing.  Unfortunately, it was Country Music again... oh em gee, I'm losing my respect for the bull.  So again we called it a night after making some other pit stops on the way home.

Sunday at Hairmasters
So I had an appointment with Katheleen to get a trim and get my eyebrows waxed!  Yep, I got 'em waxed, and I'm secure enough in my manhood to say that!  It looks good, too.  I had got my eyebrows waxed by Katheleen like 7 years ago or something, and this time was MUCH better than then.  The last time, her friend dropped hot wax on my eye and my eyelid was shut tight for hours... Thankfully that didn't happen this time, lol.  If it did, I don't know what I would've done...

Build-a-Bear
Eddie reminds Jeanie of a Teddy Bear so we went to Build-A-Bear in the Crossroads mall.  They put in a voice box with Eddie saying something, and got the bear some clothes too.  Here's a picture:

Putters
We took the kids to Putters for some much needed arcade time.  Eddie, Jeanie and Max came along too.  I won over 1000 tickets on the Wheel of Fortune game they have there.  I love that game... Dave & Buster's has one too.  If you time the light you can win a lot of tickets!  By the time we were done there we had over 1700 ticket easily.  The DDR was better for me this time around.  I played more singles and doubles and got better scores than last time.  I also played Eddie in air hockey and to my dismay he won by one point... unacceptable!  The two of us go back and forth winning against each other, but I'm usually in the lead... if we had time for a rematch I'm sure I could've evened the score.  I will get him next time. You better be ready Eddie!!

The Drive Home
WAS TERRIBLE!  The roads were awful!  Slush and snow mix made for dangerous conditions.  It wasn't so bad on the highway, had to go much slower than normal though.  I was taking Max home to Milford and that's where the roads were really bad.  I think it took me almost 4 hours to ge home instead of the usual 2.5.  But I made home safe and sound.

Sick with a Cold or Flu or somethin'!
The next day I went to work and was sick!  And I'm still sick today... feelin' a little better.  Last night I had a fever of 101.6.  I don't have the fever anymore, but I still have a sore throat and some sinus and head congestion.  Argh, I hate being sick.

That's all for now, surf in next week to find out what happens this weekend at my company's annual holiday party!

Last Weekend
11/24/2008 at 5:26:23 PM by Jason T. Stiles | 0 Comments

Last weekend was pretty eventful!  I'll spare you the mushy details that typically happen in a relationship and instead tell you about the fun stuff that happened.

Let it Snow!
We started out Saturday morning playing with Christy's kids: she has a 4-year old girl (Alaina) and a 2-year old boy (Nathan).  Gorgeous kids and fun to be around.  We were going to make a snowman, but the snow wasn't the packing type so instead we decided to throw some snowballs, do a bit of sledding, and ride on the 4-wheeler.  It was pretty fun for the most part... I hadn't played in the snow in a long time, I forgot how much fun it can be!!  And also... how COLD it can be!! The pants I went out in were my pajama pants... and I've gotta say - not the best idea I've ever had.  Christy got me a couple times with probably the coldest patches of snow there were on the ground, but I actually got her on the ground and gave her a nice and healthy whitewash! I was hoping to find a patch with some yellow snow, but lucky for her there wasn't any around!

Noodles and a Haircut
If you haven't been to Noodles & Company, a spectacular restaurant featuring lots of noodle recipes, you need to find one and go there!  The Wisconsin Mac & Cheese is my favorite, and well...the only thing I eat there, but it's so damn good it's worth it!  We took the kids there for lunch before we got their haircut done by Katheleen, a good friend of mine and Christy's.  If any of you live around the Kalamazoo area, go to Hairmasters on Westnedge and get your hair done by Katheleen!!!  She does an excellent job; by far the best haircutter-person, ever.

Visiting the Parents and Grandparents
After the haircuts, we took the kids back home to their grandparents and I took Christy to meet my parents and grandparents.  In case you don't know, I dated Christy back in high school and she broke my arm when I was jumping on her trampoline trying to show her and her family my famous back-flips.  You might be asking how she broke my arm?  She made me do a back-flip in front of everyone!  I had stage-fright!  I did my back-flip... all was fine while I was flipping through the air, it's the landing the caused all the damage!  I landed at the very edge of the trampoline and it sprung me off and I landed sort of on my arm.  Broke the growth plate.  That sucked.  But anyway, we were expecting my Mom to bring up the broken arm ordeal, but instead it was my Dad!!  They only remember her because they think she broke my arm lol.  I choose to think she did as well.

The name is Bond, James Bond...
After visiting the family, Christy and I caught the new Bond movie: Quantum Solace.  Hmm... not as good as Casino Royale in my opinion.  The movie continues where Casino Royale left off, but I felt the movie was sort of jumpy and not very cohesive, but all the action was good!  If I were to give it a rating, I'd give it a 7/10.  It's definitley worth watching at the theatre at the very least.

Putters: best arcade in Kalamazoo, MI
After the movie, we had some time to spare before venturing to the Wild Bull, so we went to Putters Family Fun Center to play some games!  I got to strut-my-stuff on DDR: Supernova 2... I did a few doubles, but more singles.  I actually haven't played that version yet so I wasn't used to the music, but I did alright - I'm definitely not as good as I used to be!  I need more practice!  We also played that Jump Rope game... which I think is really fun.  I beat the first one, Jackpot 1 or something, and got really close to beating Jackpot 2.  There's also a Jackpot 3... which is insane... you don't want to know!  Then Christy and I played some Ski Ball where she tore me up... omg, I was pwned, 'nuff said.  And then I was pwned again...she beat me at air hockey... (I let her win, /snicker).  Then Kath's b/f Steve and I watched Christy and Kath play a game of air hockey... and we watched... and watched some more... they TOOK FOREVER!  HOLY COW! Seriously.  If air hockey had innings like in baseball, I'd say they cleared at least 50 innings before someone won.  The score was 6 to 7 in Kath's favor.  And THEN! I played Steve... and ripped him a new one.  That's right, I rule at air hockey (when I'm not letting you win).

The Wild Bull
After Putters, we ventured to the Wild Bull!  A good name for the place because, in fact, it does have a WILD BULL!! You get to ride it and it kicks and blows out steam from its nostrils... and yeah, it's controlled mechanically by some douchebag that tries real hard to get you knocked off and typically succeeds.  The first time I rode the bull, I think I lasted like 33 seconds...and Eddie lasted 31 seconds.  The Wild Bull also has dancing and live music!! Yay!! Live Music!! BUT WAIT!! It was Live...and it was Music... but it was COUNTRY MUSIC!!  DISGUSTING!  Argh... so, Christy likes country music... so I danced with her and we had a good time... but had a better time when the music unsucked.  About an hour left before the place closed they started playing the good music.  That's when I could really let go... unfortunately, I couldn't let go all the way because so many people crowding the floor (a lot more than what was on the floor when the country music was on)!  Luckily, a clearing opened up a little later on and I had enough room to show people my shiney moves.  I livened up the dance floor a bit in my opinion. Christy did too in fact!  She is a little self-conscious about dancing with other people around... but that night, she went CRAZY!!  I was definitely turned on.  She had rhythm, she had beat, and she was rockin' it.  It made the night much more enjoyable, and surprising too I might add!

Sunday Morning DDR on the Nintendo Wii
We were so tired after the Wild Bull that we fell asleep pretty quickly when we got home.  The next morning saw me trying out DDR on the Wii... yeah, not a fan.  You have to use yours arms and your legs... and they got weird things that happen on some arrows... the pad wasn't very responsive too... It wasn't very fun to me... challenging maybe a little, but not fun.  Perhaps I need to play it a bit more, we'll see.

Shopping
After we finally got ready, we did some shopping at Kohls and Target.  I got a new winter coat and a nice-lookin' jacket, and a few pairs of pants.

My Mom's Birthday
My Mom's birthday was on Saturday and my siblings and I celebrated her birthday on Sunday night.  We took her to Lonestar in Battle Creek.  The food was OK, the strawberry lemonade was probably not worth it, but hey... it was family time so it was all good.  I got my Mom some nice flowers and a card that made her feel older (yeah, I'm a cruel son /snicker).

Thanksgiving Week!
So this week is Thanksgiving Week!! Hooray!  Surf in next week to find out what happens when Eddie and I surprise his g/f and Christy with some much-needed together time!  We got plans, oh yes... and they are devious, oh yes...
